Senator T.A Orji urges Buhari to discuss with IPOB

Senator Theodore Ahamefula Orji, senator representing Abia Central, also the former Governor of Abia State has urged the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retired) to engage the leadership of the Indigenous People of Biafra, to avoid further further chaos in the country.

Senator Orji made this known to journalist in a interview in Abuja as part of his preparation for his 70th birthday party.

The former Governor insisted that a dialogue with IPOB will be the best way to achieve peace in South east geopolitical zone. He strongly noted that the Igbos have been marginalized over the years and deserved a listening ear with the federal government.

He said, “If there are dissident voices, the president should call them and discuss with them.

“He should find out the cause of their agitation and work out ways to address their grievances.

” He should see how he can bring them in and fully integrate them into the system.

“That is what will solve the problem of the country. Call the dissident voices to a conference.

“There is nothing bad in discussing with the IPOB. If you don’t discuss with them, they will continue to give you trouble.

“We can’t be happy when other regions have six states and we have five. It shows that we are marginalized and cheated. That is what is causing the agitation in the region.

“Some groups are agitating that the zone should be a country on its own. Others are demanding restructuring because it is glaring that the South-East is being marginalized”.

UN sends delegates to Nigeria

The United Nations has sent delegates to Nigeria. Amin Mohammed a leading delegation of senior officials to Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone and Niger was sent to Nigeria to discuss the impact of the covid-19 pandemic and the way forward.

Amina will meet with President Muhammadu Buhari and the vice President Yemi Osinbajo  from November 8-11 2020.

The UN’s office in a Nigeria through a statement on Sunday explained that Amina Mohammed would work with Osinbajo to launch the” Nigeria UN plus offer for socio-economic recovery-2020-2021″. UN promised to support Nigeria to respond positively to the challenges posed by the corona virus pandemic.

According to the statement  “She will also join the Minister of Women Affairs to launch the Generation Equality campaign in Nigeria to raise awareness about the agenda of the Beijing Platform for Action and foster inter-generational exchange and dialogue to empower a new generation of women’s rights activists.”

Other prominent UN members of the delegation are the Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel, Mr Mohamed Ibn Chambas, Special Representative of the Secretary-General to the African Union.

Former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, says it is better to lose power and gain honour. The former President announced this on Friday in a Facebook post.

He wrote “Nobody’s ambition is worth the blood of any citizen. It is better to gain honour at the cost of losing power than to gain power at the cost of losing honour.

“At any point in time, the power of love should matter more than the love of power.

This is my philosophy. I have lived it. It has brought great peace to both my beloved nation and I. And I recommend it to all leaders facing challenging situations, either in government, or at the polls, or even in their dealings with fellow political actors.”

China temporarily restrains Nigeria due to codvid-19 fears

China has temporarily restrained entry of Nigerians into the country due to covid-19 worries.

The Chinese Embassy in Nigeria on Thursday, raised concerns over the resurfacing of the corona virus. The embassy made it clear that they would no longer issue certified health declaration form for non Chinese citizens residing in the country.

According to the statement “Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, China has decided to temporarily suspend entry into China by non-Chinese nationals in Nigeria holding visas or residence permits still valid at the time of this announcement.”

People on diplomatic, courtesy, missions and staffs working on a planes, ships and ships are exempted in this new restriction and those needing to travel to china for emergency reasons will be granted visa.

According to National Centre for Disease Control corona virus cases stood at 63,328, death,1155 and recoveries, 59,675.

Recall, Corona Virus broke out first in China, but has managed the virus effectively, this new development is a precautionary measure to stop the spread of the virus into China.
